Gösta von Platen holds an MFA in Craft! from Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm. During his studies he conducted research at the Louvre’s archive in Lievin, France, which inspired the re-crafting of a 16th century tapestry through 3D-printing and sublimation. He also participated in a residency with Rejmyre ArtLab - center for peripheral studies, investigating site specific artistic work in a post rural context. During his master studies he received grants from Estrid Ericsson, Maria Edlinds Stiftelse and Konstfack. For his MFA graduation project Trembling Matter he received both the Vasakronan Scholarship and a Konstfack grant for his master's thesis. Trembling Matter assembled found materials and observations gathered from in-between spaces into temporary environments. Extensive fieldwork laid the foundation for the project, opening up new perspectives for how we perceive our immediate surroundings through material agency.
His work is currently on view in the exhibition Coexistences at MUDE Design Museum, Lisbon. During 2025 and 2026 is work was presented in Stockholm at Galleri Glas, The Cell, Kulturhuset and at the Ma:Matter:Materia event by Plastic Productions. Before focusing fully on his artistic practice, Gösta worked across fashion, craft and design. He holds a BA in Fashion Design from ESMOD Berlin, complemented by studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and internships at JW Anderson and AMI Paris. From 2018 to 2023 he worked as a menswear designer at LOEWE where collaborations across fashion, art and craft further developed his interest in material knowledge, making and embodied experience. He also participated in the European Space Agency's Couture in Orbit project, presented at the Science Museum in London.
Gösta is now establishing a studio in Paris while developing collaborative projects in France and Sweden. His practice continues to investigate two intertwined understandings of nature. One is the natural environment that humans idealise yet exploit. The other is nature as the inherent character of a thing, a place, a body or a force. Although language separates these meanings, they exist in constant exchange, shaping our ways of inhabiting the world. It is within this tension that Gösta assembles materials into installations and temporary environments where urban and rural, utopian and dystopian, coexist.
